We are seeking reviews for the following restaurants/cafes:
San Lorenzo, London
Seasons of Italy, Tunbridge Wells
The Waterside Inn, Bray
Probably the most exciting restaurant location in N8 - and with the Royal Academy Schools gallery attached. The outside deck area is pretty unique also for the summer when it first opened, and my wife and son have taken a few trips there for coffee and cake meeting up with others from the N8 baby crowd. It seems a bit cavernous inside when empty, but when we were there for an early dinner the owner/chef introduced himself and had a bit of a chat which we liked and made good business sense. The menu seems well balanced, between affordable pizza/ pasta and the more adult food which is on the pricey side, especially when you tot up the side dishes. However it was all beautifully presented and prepared with generous portions. I have to say we were blown away by the desserts, especially the Heston Blumenthal inspired ice-cream flavours which were out of this world (lemongrass anyone?)and are what sent my wife back on those summer afternoons. I expect they need to fill the place up with a more drinking crowd to really make money as it's a huge venue. I haven't been when it's busy and only time will tell if they can cope. I hope they can as it will fill a dark void a that end of Hornsey High Street. Milo Twix

The Pumphouse
My daughter and I visited The Pumphouse for the first time for dinner on 21 March.
The staff were pretty useless except one guy who seemed to do everything - mix cocktails, wait at tables and organise the bills. He was great.
There were 2 menus on our table but we had to ask for the cocktail list and wine list! We ordered 2 cocktails which were just OK but sooooo pricey! £8 for a Mai Tai - you must be joking. We gave our food-order to a disinterested waitress with the strict instruction not to serve before we had finished our cocktails. She completely disregarded this request. The starter - Shrimp Cocktail ("as it ought to be") - arrived even before our cocktails were even on the table! Hopeless.
Incidentally, Shrimp Cocktail "as it ought to be" does NOT consist of tiny frozen, pealed shrimps with just one or two small ones in their shells (probably also frozen) on a plate! The food wasn't too bad - my daughter had the bass fillets and I had the pork belly. But the prices charged are astronomical for a restaurant in N8. PW
