Having not visited this pub for some years I was keen to find out if the previously good food and service were still up to scratch, and if they still specialised in voluptuous barmaids. I needn't have worried...

On what must have been the warmest April day ever, myself and some rambling friends stopped for lunch and having ordered our food, we sought shelter from the sun under a large tree in the very pleasant garden which is also home to a family of rather tame ducks. My lasagne arrived in good time, a sizeable portion with a garlic baguette and salad that actually had ripe tomatoes as opposed to the anaemic ones so often served with pub food. Dessert was a slice of Jamaican rum gateau, perhaps slightly lacking in rum but otherwise delicious. The others all enjoyed their meals and it was 'thumbs up' all round.

I ordered a takeaway from the Notting Hill Tandoori last night, quite by chance, and I found myself eating the best Indian food I have tasted in years! I had a freshwater fish dish called African Queen, and a spinach, green banana and potato side dish. Both were delicious, with top quality ingredients, and lightly spiced so that all of the natural flavours were enhanced. The Pilau rice was a revelation - it had a superb taste and texture, and none of those strange bright food colourings. All of the food was fresh, natural and healthy, and not in the least bit oily.

Whistlers, Hart Shopping, Fleet, Hampshire

What a find... The coffee shop cafe scene has become so saturated with the chains over recent years I'd lost all hope of having a positive experience in this sector again, but I could have been knocked over by a feather after my first ten minutes in this place.

The fare was nothing too adventurous; baguettes, focaccia paninis, salads, dessert pots, baked goods, pies etc. We had the usual 'made fresh' signs and the obligatory claim to gourmet coffee too, and a selection of syrups - all dressed up in what seemed to be a chain type frontage.
